Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Mass

Throne of Glass

Book Synopsis:

In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival-and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Thrilling and fierce, Throne of Glass is the first book in the #1
New York Times bestselling series that has captivated readers worldwide.

My Review:

I read ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) by Sarah J Maas first. I fell in love with that series. So much so, that I made my husband listen to the series with me for my second time around. Since it is the same author, I had HIGH hopes for this series. That was wrong of me. This is the first series that Maas wrote. The writing style is a little juvenile, wordy, repetitive, and generally not as good as ACOTAR. It may not be fair to say that yet, as I am currently tandem reading Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn, but I feel pretty confident in that assessment overall.

With all that said, this series is still AMAZING. I love Celaena's badass attitude and I also love and hate that she is going to do whatever plan she wants to do regardless of what anyone else tells her. No one "lets" Celaena do ANYTHING. This book is a little bit of a slow burn with the first chapters taking place in the middle of no where, and traveling to the kingdom from the middle of no where. You get a decent amount of dialogue, but it was a little hard to get into. The first couple of chapters at the castle did not excite me much either, but once you get to know the competitors, The Captain of the Guard, The Prince, and The Princess things really start going. There is a little bit of spice, and I cant quite remember where this book specifically ends, but I have been devouring this series.
