Winston Brothers by Penny Reid
Truth or Beard: Winston Brothers Book 1
Book Synopsis:
Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!
Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why perpetually level-headed Jessica James has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…
But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks.
When Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?
Truth or Beard is book #1 in the Winston Brothers series. Each book is a standalone, full length (110k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the romantic exploits and adventures of one of the six Winston Brothers.
My Review:
Duane Faulkner Winston! Phew! He is a smokin' hot southern bad boy! Okay, so bad boy might not be the right term, but the shoe almost fits!
Ashley's book "Beauty and the Mustache" from the Knitting in the City series, introduced us to the Winston Brothers. Ashley's book was probably my favorite from the series, and I fell in love with Green Valley and the Winston Brothers. I am so glad Penny Reid decided to give us the spin off series for all of the brothers. They are perfection, so similar and yet so different at the same time.
Duane is a character you hate to love, but he works his way into your heart pretty quickly. He's got a chip on his shoulder and keeps his defenses up. It's hard work crushing on the same girl your entire life. Especially when she has been crushing on your twin brother the whole time.
Jessica is a complicated character for me. She is hilarious, and has some good depth to her, but I still find it weird that she just accepts the fact that she is suddenly in love with the twin she thought she hated. I love her back story and her development and growth throughout the book. I love the banter with her and Duane. I love how easy (and hard) their relationship is, and the spice is so nice.
This book is a strong start to the series and I had NO problem immediately picking up the next book in the series.
